The area · Heart of the Hérault

Between vines,
garrigue
and the Mediterranean.

Le Logis opens onto a region that unfolds over 45 minutes. From AOC slopes to the great blue, from the Way of Saint James to the Hérault Gorges — enough to fill a week, or to do nothing at all.

Le Barry, view of the garrigue

Montpeyroux,
an unusual village.

At the foot of Mont Saint-Baudile, Montpeyroux stretches its narrow streets between wine estates and garrigue. Just 10 minutes from Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, listed among the most beautiful villages in France. Le Logis sits at the hamlet of "Le Barry", just above the last roof — where, on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Cévennes.

Everything is closer
than you'd think.

Five anchors to grasp the scale of the area. A car helps for the farthest, but plenty can be reached on foot or by bike straight from the doorstep.

The garrigue around Montpeyroux
Room 01 — Garrigue & nature

A light step
on the dry stone.

The garrigue scrubland begins where the tarmac ends — that is, a few steps from Le Logis. Marked trails, stone paths, holm oak woods and pine forests scented with wild thyme and lavender. You walk, you ride, you look up to spot a black kite, and you come back with heavy legs but a clear head.

Room 02 — Villages & heritage

A thousand years of stone,
then the silence.

The region is dotted with medieval villages — Montpeyroux, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, Aniane, Saint-Jean-de-Fos. The Abbey of Gellone (11th century) is UNESCO-listed, the Devil's Bridge has spanned the gorges for eight hundred years, and Lodève hides a striking Gothic cathedral. For lovers of stones that have lived, there is plenty.

Room 03 — Vineyards & terroir

The wine of this place,
the one that speaks.

Montpeyroux is one of the most singular appellations in the Languedoc. The vines cling to the limestone-clay slopes and give powerful reds — Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre — and a few surprising whites. Several estates work biodynamically or organically. Cellar visits and tastings by appointment: a chance to understand why terroir matters. More about AOC Languedoc — Montpeyroux ↗

Water, in all
its forms.

In summer, you have a choice. The Hérault river offers swimming in clear water just fifteen minutes away — canoeing, paddleboarding, jumping from the rocks for the brave. And the Mediterranean is only 45 minutes away: Sète and its canals, La Grande-Motte and its architecture, Cap d'Agde, plus the lagoons where flamingos gather. Pick your water of the day.

The Way of
Saint James
passes at the door.

The GR®653, the Arles route, crosses Montpeyroux and passes within a few metres of the house.

For long-distance walkers heading from Arles to Toulouse to Compostela, Le Logis makes a precious stop — a real bed, a walk-in shower, a kitchen to prepare the evening meal. Many pilgrims stop here for one night, some stay two to catch their breath. You are very welcome — the welcome is quick and discreet, and the studio is step-free, useful when you've just walked thirty kilometres.
